Haiyang lies at the foot of the mountains and embraces 230 kilos' coastline. Haiyang has rich resources and the industries are highly developed, including garment, machinery, metals, construction material, arts and crafts and water product. Among all these, the sweaters processing is much more developed, having 365 scale-sizable manufacturers and over 3,000 individual workshops. The total assets of these enterprises amount to RMB 1.5 billion and the gross year output exceeds 100 million pieces, consuming over 40 thousand tons’ yarns. The industry employs more than 70 thousand workers, including 20 thousand non-locals. In 2002, the industry achieved the year sales turnover of RMB 2.5 billion, the export shipment of RMB2.3 billion, the profits tax of RMB 300 million and the tax payment of RMB 100 million.
